Developing your own academic voice is an important part of preparing assessments. When putting together your response to an assessment question, you need to base your answer on evidence from credible publications while making your own voice heard in your writing.
Steps for developing your own voice
Read up on the topic. Collect relevant information and ideas from credible academic sources.
Notice the connections between those ideas.
Evaluate the sources. Might they be biased, outdated or contested by others in the field?
Write your own paragraphs in your own words.
During the final writing phase, present information that:
you have chosen to be relevant
in an order that is logical to you (and your reader)
showing the connections between different ideas or facts
and your interpretation of their significance.
