Academic Writing

Universities have conventions for presenting work. These conventions allow easy worldwide communication among academics and anyone wishing to read researched work.

Academic writing is similar to other styles of formal writing, such as writing in business and workplace settings – it tends to use formal vocabulary and be objective and impersonal.  Academic writing does not include the features of spoken and colloquial language, such as contractions and casual vocabulary. One of the key features of academic writing is referring to evidence or research, which must be referenced consistently and accurately.
