Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS)

PASS is a peer-facilitated student study support program. A PASS session gives you the opportunity to grasp unit content by working collaboratively with other students. These sessions integrate helpful study tips, tools, and successful exam techniques specific to your unit of study.

The focus of a PASS session is on the group learning together. Peer learning is recognised as a powerful learning technique, and research has shown that students who study together outside the classroom achieve better results (Murray, 2009).

The objective of PASS is to educate, motivate, and build confidence in each student who attends PASS sessions. It consists of weekly one-hour study sessions exploring the content you learned in the previous week.  PASS sessions are facilitated by PASS Leaders. A PASS Leader is a student who has successfully completed the unit of study previously.

Sessions are designed to maximise your understanding of the subject in a casual and relaxed environment. Attending 1 hour of PASS can be the equivalent of completing 2 hours of self-study. If PASS is offered in your unit of study, don't hesitate to join a session.

PASS online sessions are offered in the following subjects:

  • MULT1015   Applications in Context
  • SOSC1024   Drugs and Crim

School of Psychological Sciences:

  • PSYC1042   Psychology: History, Science & Application 1

Some features of PASS sessions:

  • they complement subject lectures and tutorials.

  • they are led by current senior high-achieving students.

  • they are designed to help all students.

  • they target subjects that are studied early in the student’s course, or that are identified as difficult for students.

  • they help students with their study time: 1 PASS session (60 minutes) has shown to be as effective as 2 hours of study time at home!

  • they are voluntary and require no registration (just drop into a session).

You can find the Zoom link for sessions on the right-hand side of your CLASS SPACE.
