Reflective Piece or Journal

Reflective Piece or Journal

Reflective assignments ask you to think about your learning, skills and feelings so that you can grow as a healthcare professional.

As with all assignments, a reflective piece or journal needs to be based on the specific instructions and marking criteria provided in the unit.

A reflective assignment may include discussion about:

  • what and how you have learnt
  • what you have done or experienced
  • how this learning and experience applies to the theories, concepts and models you are studying
  • what you would do next time or in the future

Gibbs' (1998) model of reflective thinking can help you to organise your writing for a reflective assignment:
